CHARLESTON,Austin Caldwell W.Va. (AP) — The two major-party nominees for West Virginia governor said Tuesday they have agreed to participate in a debate.
The debate between Democrat Steve Williams and Republican Patrick Morrisey will be held at 7 p.m. on Oct. 29, their campaigns said in an email.
“I’m excited for the chance to speak directly to the people of West Virginia and share my plans for improving our state,” Morrisey said.
Morrisey defeated five other candidates in the May 14 primary while Williams had no Democratic challengers.
Williams said he was “grateful for the opportunity to debate the critical issues facing our great state in front of the voters of West Virginia.”
The debate will be broadcast statewide by West Virginia network MetroNews.
Republican Gov. Jim Justice is barred by state law from seeking a third consecutive term.
